Crown School of Motoring

We pride ourselves in being an independant driving school run by myself, Alison, and my wife Ellen. I have been teaching people to drive since 2006. For most of my time as a DSA Approved Driving Instructor, I was working at Leconfield teaching the Armed Forces how to drive. I specialised in intensive individually structured courses, getting learners through their test as quickly as possible. Everyone has different needs and apptitudes so I pride myself in making sure the learner is at the correct standard before putting them in for the test. Considering the intensive courses I did, I had an excellent first time pass rate of 98%. I still use the same techniques as I did at Leconfield, which means my students gain confidence and skill quickly and thefore pass sooner saving them money too. After taking two years out during 2012 and 2013, I felt I was missing teaching so with the help of Ellen, I relaunched using the name Crown School of Motoring in 2014. During that year Ellen started her training to join me in the business and also become and Approved Driving Instructor. Together, since then we have built a fantastic repuatation resulting in many first time passes for us both.

We have been very lucky to have found two identical cars for our students benefit. We started teaching using our Mini Coopers but after a number of mechanical problems, we traded them in and in July 2019 purchased two brand new gorgeous Suzuki Swifts. In December 2022 we traded these in and got two comfortable and beautiful (some would disagree) Ford Ecosports. They've been a real hit with our learners. They are very comfortable even for the tall (I am 6ft and I have plenty of room). Although they look like a big car, they are actually built on a Ford Fiesta chasis, but they have the added benefit of height, keeping us all safe and a better view of the road ahead. This also increases our visability on the road. They are fitted with the best on the market Dual Controls which are there for extra safety. The extra pedals mean we can take control of the vehicle if we need to.

We have had many a nervous driver, but our patience, expertise and fun way of learning soon puts nerves at bay. We don't like to sit at the side of the road talking about the car for hours and pride ourselves in the fact you start driving on your first lesson.

During your first lesson you will be collected and driven to a quiet and safe place where we will take some time to talk to you about the car, the controls and the road. After that we will put it into practice and we will spend some time stopping and starting along the road. Our aim is for you to be able to drive us home on your first lesson.

If at any point we feel that a learner is doing too many hours and it is compromising their learning, we would suggest decreasing the number of hours. Enjoying your time behind the wheel installs confidence and determination which leads you to achieving your independence and your driving licence.

At first the lessons will be taken at the learners pace, until they feel comfortable, confident and most importantly safe. Safety of our learners, others on the road and ourselves are the most important factors. We have both recently completed an emergency first aid course and both vehicles carry suitbale first aid kits. You are safe with us.
